Sandra Nickel Realtor - Hat Team

To provide you with the best possible care, your doctor would never consider “doing it all.” Instead, that caring professional has a front desk person to greet you and respond to callers; a nurse to take your history and do follow-up; and an insurance person to file your claims. It just makes sense that it takes a team of specialists to look after your health.

It’s no different with real estate. While there are many agents out there who try to “do it all themselves,” you only get the best results for your real estate needs when there’s a team of specialists working for you.

Introducing the Hat Team, each of whom is 100% dedicated not only to meeting your needs but exceeding your expectations and creating raving fans...

Sandra Nickel

As founder and CEO of The Hat Team, Sandra leads one of most technologically advanced real estate companies in the River Region. Her industry colleagues call her a top professional, but Sandra calls herself a “rainmaker”: she’s always busy bringing in new clients and keeping in touch with current and past clients. She does it in part by her service to and with the community, and her articulate sharing of her knowledge with local and national contacts.

In spite of her vast 30 plus years of experience in real estate, she has an unquenchable thirst for knowledge to help her clients and prospects find or sell their home. One of her successes is that she has earned the Certified Residential Specialist designation held by less than 4 percent of all Realtors nationwide. Sandra is most proud, however, of her team of professionals and their collaborative commitment to care for the firm's clients. Included on that team is husband Jim, an Air Force veteran, who serves as CFO.

Sandra follows a time-honored code of ethics whose principles are loosely defined as loyalty to clients; fiduciary (legal) duties to clients; cooperation with competitors; truthfulness in statements and advertising; and non-interference in exclusive relationships that other Realtors have with their clients. Sandra has helped thousands settle into the quaint cottages, bungalows and mansions in the historic Montgomery area neighborhoods. Her team is hands down the expert when it comes to Midtown Montgomery homes.

When not "working", Sandra uses her talents to help local non-profits and those in need. One of her pets, Halle, the office cat, was rescued from a vacant house. The office dog, OD (for Office Dog, so named because he was their first pet to commute to the office), was a stray left in a client's yard. She's extremely generous and has also been involved in helping neighborhoods though out the city form better leadership.

She annually helps showcase old home tours in historic neighborhoods. She shares her resources with favorite groups including the Capri Theater, Friends of the Governors Mansion, The Archibald Senior Center, and collects coats and blankets for the homeless. Currently, she chairs the board of HandsOn River Region. She has been recognized by the City of Montgomery as a Lifetime Community Advocate.

What a pleasure it was for me to deal with you and your Hat Team. You are the most on-the-ball lady I have ever met. I got good advice, professional service and prompt follow up every time. You have also built a fine organization. The other members of your Team were always competent and I never felt anything would fall through the cracks between them because they performed together like a well oiled machine. I will take great pleasure in recommending you and your team to anyone who needs a really competent Realtor.

Jim Nickel
Business Manager

You know the diagrams you see of gears turning? Well, Jim Nickel is “the big gear” at Hat Team, REALTORS. He very quietly goes about the business of the business, making sure that bills are paid and systems are functioning. As data base/financial manager, you may not see his name very often, but you see his imprint everywhere.

When he’s not at his desk driving his computer, Jim can be found following politics and sports. He’s passionate about both. He listens to 50s/60s classics, and some country. He’s also a jam-up cook and he loves to barbecue just about anything.

Jim has given up his love for motorcycling and golf, but he also loves the dogs, and they follow him around to the point that his wife Sandra often refers to him as “the Pied Piper of Midtown.”

Jim grew up near St. Louis, Missouri, served in the Air Force for more than four years and has lived in Montgomery since 1964, excluding seven years.

Billy Young
Production Manager

Ask any of Billy Young's 400-plus clients, and you'll hear things like "I always knew he wanted only the best for me." That's Billy: professional, knowledgeable, and 100% dedicated to making sure his clients have a stellar experience when buying or selling. Nothing gets in the way of that - nothing!

He expects the best for his clients and nothing less for himself. Confident and articulate, Billy has been in the real estate industry since 1999, and before that in the banking sector. During those years and the thousands of "tell me about you" conversations, he recognized his natural ability to listen and deliver what his clients wanted.

When he's not fiercely pursuing his clients' best interests, he's equally focused in pursuing a good time. Whether cooking and entertaining, traveling or relaxing at water's edge with a glass of good wine, Billy lives life with gusto, and he is widely known for his devilishly wicked sense of humor as well as his tastefully fashionable wardrobe.

Originally from the Phenix City/Columbus area, Billy moved to and has called Montgomery his home since 1986.  He graduated from Troy University in the early 1990’s with a degree in Psychology.  Since entering the world of real estate, he has obtained a number of REALTOR designations, and has graduated Howard Brinton’s Buyer Specialist University, Listing Specialist University, Team University, and Leadership University.

Billy Young - a man who knows what he wants and is not afraid to go after it!

Thank you so much for selling my house successfully, efficiently and with kind handling of a stressful first-time seller. You made things go more smoothly than I ever expected.

Frank Powell

"We expected that buying a home would be stressful - who knew Frank Powell would make it fun instead!" That's the typical reaction from among Frank's hundreds of satisfied clients, who all agree he is just about the warmest and fuzziest salesperson they've ever encountered. Don't be fooled - it's fun and games on the surface, but underneath there's Frank the pro making sure everything goes just as it should. Frank confesses he almost adopts his clients to help them find the right home.

Frank is a hard working senior sales associate who loves vintage architectural styles: bungalows, cottages, Mid Century Modern, Colonial, Tudor, Mediterranean and Victorian. Having owned eight vintage homes over four decades, the Montgomery native is familiar with codes, neighborhood guidelines and association rules. He can share a vision of what will make an old house work for today's lifestyle. He's a great communicator with a sharp sense of humor. You'll be hard pressed to find a Realtor with more enthusiasm and empathy for satisfying a client. As a buyer's agent or seller's agent, he will provide excellent service resulting in less stress for you. He is very knowledgeable and insightful and can help solve complicated real estate transactions. He's been cited for fair practices, and his knowledge of the Montgomery area is often mentioned by clients.

Frank's passion extends beyond real estate to his neighbors (his carport is the hangout spot). He is the owner of three vintage cars, and he enjoys maintaining his Mid-Century Modern themed booth at Eastbrook Flea Market. And, his love of all God's creatures is probably why he (and Sandra) rescued a frightened young cat from an abandoned house and brought it to the office, where she lives to this day! He also enjoys his 14 year old collie shepherd.

Like it says on many a wall you've seen around, "For a good time (and a great house), call Frank!"

Melissa and Adam Warnke

From the moment that I walked into that open house on LeBron at the beginning of the year, you have been incredibly helpful and accommodating of me and my very particular (although hardly defined) specifications for the home I was looking for. I never once felt like I was hassling you (although I am certain I did) and that truly meant the world to me during an impressionable and extenuating time.
